چکیده

conclusions the functional outcome 22 months post injury showed that although primary treatment method uses locked imn in humeral shaft fractures, unlocked imn can be used in appropriate cases. less injury risk to the axillary and radial nerve, short period of surgery, and less radiation can be considered as advantages of this technique. introduction although intramedullary nailing (imn) is used in a reamed or unreamed fashion for treatment of long bone fractures, the locked nails may also be used in the unlocked form if so decided by the orthopedic surgeon. case presentation we describe a 50-year-old man who had a shaft fracture of his right humerus. the fracture was treated with a reamed, locked imn using unlocked technique.

Presentation of a Humeral Shaft Fracture Treated by Locked Intramedullary Nailing With Unlocked Technique

INTRODUCTION Although intramedullary nailing (IMN) is used in a reamed or unreamed fashion for treatment of long bone fractures, the locked nails may also be used in the unlocked form if so decided by the orthopedic surgeon. Open adult femoral shaft fracture treated by early intramedullary nailing.

In two hospitals, 115 consecutive open femoral shaft fractures were treated by meticulous wound excision and early locked (97) or unlocked (18) intramedullary nailing. All the fractures united; union was delayed in four, three of which required bone grafting. The average range of knee flexion at follow-up was 134 degrees (60 to 148). Five patients had a final range of less than 120 degrees, but...

Treatment Outcome of Intramedullary Fixation with a Locked Rigid Nail in Humeral Shaft Fractures

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the treatment outcome of humeral shaft fractures with a locked rigid intramedullary nail in patients indicated for surgical treatment. Methods: In this descriptive-cross sectional study, all patients were followed up for one, six, and 18 months post operatively. The Short Form Questionnaire (SF-36) and Constant Shoulder Score were applied. Re...

Locked Nailing of Humeral Shaft Fractures

We report the results of locked Seidel nailing for 30 fractures of the humerus. There were frequent technical difficulties at operation especially with the locking mechanisms. Protrusion of the nail above the greater tuberosity occurred in 12 cases, usually due to inadequate locking, and resulted in shoulder pain and poor function. Poor shoulder function was also seen in five patients with no n...

Locked intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures.

One hundred twenty-three femoral shaft fractures were treated with Grosse-Kempf slotted, locked nails and followed for a median 20 (range, 12-60) months. There were eight intraoperative and 11 postoperative complications, among them two superficial and two deep infections. Most of the intraoperative complications and some postoperatively lost reductions could have been prevented by a better ope...

Primary unreamed and unlocked intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures.

ABSTRACT In this retrospective study, we present our experience using open Küntscher nailing (K-nailing) which is still performed in developing countries for femoral fractures. Of 157 acute fractures treated between January 2003 and December 2009, 100 were stable (63.7%) and 135 were located within the middle third of the shaft (86%). Comminution was absent or minimal in 135 (86%) cases. Fractu...
